BRIEF HISTORY

The Union was founded on 25th July 1951 at Chennai. The founder GeneralSecretary was Com.D.NADRAJAN. This Union consists of the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh,Karnataka and Kerala, Pondicherry (now known as Puducherry). Followed by Com.N.Sampathwho subsequently took over as President of the Unit with other great leaders likeCom.K.J.Joseph, Com.G.G.K.Murthy, Com.Ragavendra Rao were leading this great organizationwhich consists of entire south India.
Com.M.R.Krishnan has served the longest tenure for 17 years as GeneralSecretary. Com. MRK now contributes to the retiree association. In the process of branchexpansion in our Bank, Andhra Pradesh formed a separate Unit under the leadership ofCom.G.G.K.Murthy. The Kerala Unit was formed under the leadership of Com.K.J.Joseph who isthe Honorary President of Kerala Unit now. The Karnataka Unit was formed under theleadership of Com.Ragavendra Rao. So the Chennai Unit which had its jurisdiction in SouthIndia is confined to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry States. The 60th anniversary of the Union wascelebrated in the year 2011 in the presence of the veterans Com.N.Sampath andCom.K.J.Joseph at Coimbatore.
Com.N.Sampath has been the Honorary President of Chennai Unit till his lastbreath on 20th November 2014. In the year 1992 there was a split in the Union and a newUnion was formed as The Bank of India Award Staff Union affiliated to National Confederationof Bank Employees. After a very consistent and concerted efforts put forth by the leadership ofboth the Unions since 2009 it could be brought back as a single Union on 29TH JULY 2012.After its existence for 20 years, the award staff Union was dissolved and the entire membershipwas brought into Staff Union under AIBEA in the presence of Com.N.SAMPATH, our HonoraryPresident, Com.C.H.Venkatachalam, General Secretary, AIBEA – Com.Dinesh Jha Lallan,General Secretary, FOBOISU and President Com.N.M.Chawan.
Presently the Unit is under the leadership of Com.R.Sankaranarayanan, Presidentand Com.P.C.Sridhar, General Secretary as a single union in the state of Tamil Nadu.

There two zones Chennai and Coimbatore are under our Unit.
